Igor Mitoraj En Barcelona/ Igor Mitoraj in Barcelona

Published by Fundacion Caixa in 1999, this catalog documents the significant public exhibition of Igor Mitoraj's sculptures held in the streets of Barcelona. The exhibition, which saw the artist's signature monumental, weathered bronze and stone figures placed against the backdrop of the city's urban landscape, was designed to create a dialogue between contemporary classical-inspired forms and historical architecture.

The volume captures the intent of Mitoraj’s work, which is rooted in a fascination with classical antiquity, human fragility, and the aesthetics of the fragment. Mitoraj, known for his polished yet broken visages, worked closely with the curators to ensure the catalog reflected the dramatic scale and atmospheric quality of the installation, serving as both a record of the event and a scholarly examination of his thematic preoccupation with the endurance of art through time.
