Il Viaggio di Carlo Magno a Gerusalemme e a Costantinopoli

Published in 2006 by Edizioni dell'Orso, this scholarly work by Carla Rossi Bellotto explores the medieval literary traditions surrounding Charlemagne's legendary pilgrimage. The text situates the narrative within the context of Old French chanson de geste, examining how these mythological accounts of travel to the East reflect the cultural anxieties and religious crusading ideologies of the time.

The book serves as a critical philological analysis, typical of the academic output from Edizioni dell'Orso, a publisher known for specializing in medieval studies and linguistics. By dissecting the transmission and stylistic nuances of the manuscript tradition, Rossi Bellotto provides an in-depth look at how the Carolingian figure was mythologized as a traveler and protector of holy sites, offering a grounded perspective on how medieval audiences perceived the intersection of political power and sacred geography.
