Where it came from
Gerd Fesser's Jena und Auerstedt was published in 1996 by the Glaux publishing house, a German imprint noted for its regional focus on Thuringian history. The work provides a historical analysis of the dual battles fought in October 1806, which resulted in a decisive victory for Napoleon Bonaparte's Grande Armée over the Kingdom of Prussia. It was released during a period of renewed academic interest in the bicentennial preparations for the Napoleonic era's impact on German statehood.
Fesser, a recognized historian specializing in the history of the German Empire and military conflicts, designed this volume to offer a concise narrative accessible to students and history enthusiasts. The text focuses on the strategic failures of the Prussian leadership and the subsequent collapse of the old order, serving as a pedagogical tool for understanding the geopolitical shifts of early 19th-century Europe. The book is widely regarded within its context as a reliable, straightforward survey of these pivotal engagement sites.
