Le dit des vrais hommes

Le dit des vrais hommes, published by Gallimard in 1991, represents a significant ethnographic contribution by André-Marcel d’Ans. The work focuses on the Ese Ejja people of the Amazonian basin, documenting their oral traditions, cosmology, and cultural identity. D’Ans, a linguist and anthropologist, spent extensive time among the community, translating their narrative universe into French with a focus on preserving the poetic and rhythmic integrity of the original oral accounts.

The book was released as part of the Bibliothèque des Sciences Humaines collection, a prestigious imprint known for scholarly rigor. The design follows the traditional Gallimard aesthetic, emphasizing academic clarity and the intellectual gravity of the anthropological study. Upon its release, it was received as an essential primary text for specialists in South American indigenous studies, praised for its meticulous methodology and the author's deep, respectful immersion in the Ese Ejja worldview.
