Ludwig und Else Meidner

Published in 2002 by the Jüdisches Museum Frankfurt am Main, this volume serves as a comprehensive biographical and artistic document centered on the lives and creative partnership of Ludwig and Else Meidner. It was released to coincide with the museum's ongoing efforts to preserve the legacy of Ludwig Meidner, a pivotal figure in German Expressionism known for his visceral, apocalyptic landscapes and raw portraits, and his wife, Else, an accomplished artist in her own right whose career was often overshadowed by the turbulent political landscape of their time.

The book provides scholarly insight into their work, particularly reflecting the period of the 1920s and their subsequent exile during the Nazi era. The design and editorial approach of the publication focus on archival clarity, presenting their art not merely as individual pieces but as a dialogue between two artists who navigated systemic persecution and displacement. The volume is widely regarded by art historians as an essential reference for understanding the domestic and artistic intimacy of the Meidners against the backdrop of 20th-century European history.
