Marco Gastini

Published in 1981 by Das Amt, this volume serves as a comprehensive monograph dedicated to the work of Italian artist Marco Gastini. Emerging from the European contemporary art scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, the publication documents Gastini’s transition toward a complex, material-focused practice that engaged with the architecture of exhibition spaces. It was created to provide a scholarly overview of his shift away from purely conceptual concerns toward installations that emphasized the interplay between light, shadow, and physical surfaces.

The design of the book reflects the minimalist aesthetic prevalent in German art publishing of the era, prioritizing clean typography and high-fidelity reproductions of Gastini’s monochromatic and structural compositions. By documenting a pivotal stage in his career, the book helped solidify Gastini's reputation within the Arte Povera orbit and subsequent international movements. It is regarded by art historians as an essential reference for understanding his specific methodology of utilizing canvas, glass, and iron as expressive elements.
