Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible

Matthew Henry first published his 'Exposition of the Old and New Testaments' between 1708 and 1710, marking a significant contribution to nonconformist biblical scholarship. The work was conceived as a practical, devotional guide rather than a strictly academic text, intended to aid laypeople and clergy in understanding the moral and spiritual implications of scripture. Henry’s writing style, characterized by its warmth, wit, and emphasis on application, allowed the commentary to remain influential among English-speaking Protestants long after his death.

The 2018 edition under ISBN 9781976795893 is a modern, independently published reprint of this foundational historical text. By compiling Henry's multi-volume original work into a contemporary format, the publisher seeks to maintain the accessibility of the commentary for a new generation of readers. While it lacks the specific editorial flourishes of 19th-century annotated editions, its design prioritizes the integrity of Henry's original prose, serving as a utilitarian resource for those engaged in theological study.
