Where it came from
Published in 1989 by Galleri Riis, this monograph serves as a significant documentation of the work of Olav Christopher Jenssen, one of Norway's most prominent contemporary painters. The publication arrived at a pivotal moment in the artist's career, coinciding with his growing international reputation and his transition toward the more abstract, layered, and rhythmic style that would come to define his work throughout the 1990s.
The book captures the aesthetic sensibilities of the Nordic art scene of the late 1980s, reflecting a period of intense focus on the materiality of paint and the exploration of space on canvas. It was produced to accompany exhibitions of his work and serves as a formal record of his technical evolution, prioritizing large-format reproductions that allow viewers to examine his complex, gestural brushwork and subtle color palettes.
