Omaggio a Carlo Mattioli dalla collezione Rossi

Published in 1999 by 2000 & Novecento edizioni d'arte, this volume serves as a curated tribute to the artistic legacy of Carlo Mattioli, a pivotal figure in 20th-century Italian figurative painting. The collection centers on the extensive holdings of the Rossi family, who maintained a long-standing patronage of Mattioli. The book functions as both a retrospective of the artist's thematic preoccupations—notably his expressive landscapes and portraits—and a record of the intimate relationship between collector and creator that defined much of the regional art scene in Parma during that period.

The design of the publication reflects the austere, modernist sensibility favored by the publisher, emphasizing high-quality reproductions that honor Mattioli’s tactile, layered application of paint. The volume was received by critics as a necessary contribution to the cataloguing of Mattioli's oeuvre, helping to solidify his reputation during a time when his specific brand of post-war lyrical realism was undergoing scholarly re-evaluation. It remains a key reference for researchers examining the intersection of post-war Italian private collections and the promotion of mid-century figurative masters.
