Where it came from
Omaggio a Igor Mitoraj was published in 2015 by the Contini Galleria d'Arte to accompany a significant exhibition dedicated to the Polish sculptor. The volume serves as a curated retrospective of Mitoraj’s work, which is characterized by its signature post-modern approach to classical themes, often featuring fragmented, weathered, and bandaged bronze figures that evoke a profound sense of antiquity and loss.
The book documents Mitoraj’s unique aesthetic, which bridges the gap between historical tradition and contemporary sculpture. By showcasing his large-scale public commissions alongside his more intimate studio pieces, the publication highlights his technical mastery of bronze and stone. Upon its release, the volume was received as a respectful testament to his lifelong exploration of the human form, capturing the melancholic beauty that defined his career until his passing that same year.
