Pauli Orosii presbyteri hispani Adversus paganos historiarum libri septem ; ut et Apologeticus contra Pelagium de arbitrii libertate ...

This 1738 edition of the 'Adversus paganos historiarum libri septem' represents a scholarly resurgence of interest in Paulus Orosius, a fifth-century disciple of Saint Augustine. Commissioned during a period when late antique history was being meticulously re-examined by Enlightenment-era theologians and historians, this volume was intended to provide a critical, standardized text for academic study, pairing Orosius's influential apologetic history with his defense of free will against Pelagianism.

The publication by G. Potuliet reflects the editorial practices of the eighteenth century, which prioritized the preservation of ecclesiastical heritage through high-quality typography and careful textual collation. While specific design credits for this particular edition remain anonymous, the work is characteristic of the period's preference for dense, authoritative presentation, serving as a primary resource for researchers who sought to reconcile Christian historiography with the evolving secular frameworks of the 1700s.
