PERFECT LITTLE WORLD

Perfect Little World was written by Kevin Wilson and published in 2017, with this specific Picador edition appearing in 2018. The novel emerged during a period of rising interest in domestic satire and speculative fiction, exploring the intersection of experimental communal living and the anxieties of modern parenting. Wilson, known for his ability to blend the surreal with the deeply human, centers the narrative on the 'Infinite Family' project, a social experiment where young parents and their children live in isolation to test child-rearing theories.

The book’s design and reception reflect its focus on the fragility of utopian ideals. Critics generally received the work as a thoughtful, often unsettling examination of the tension between collective ambition and individual instinct. By centering the story on the complex relationships between the subjects and the wealthy patron funding the study, Wilson critiques the hubris of social engineering while maintaining a sympathetic focus on the characters caught within the experiment’s shifting boundaries.
