Roberto Burle Marx

This monograph serves as an essential documentation of the work of Roberto Burle Marx, the celebrated Brazilian landscape architect and polymath. Published in association with the Università Iuav di Venezia, the book contextualizes his transformative approach to modernism, which sought to integrate indigenous Brazilian flora with avant-garde structural design. It captures a period when his influence had fully transcended South America, establishing him as a global authority on the synthesis of ecology and art.

The publication functions both as a survey of his garden designs and an exploration of his broader creative practice, including painting and textile design. The editorial approach reflects the academic rigor of the Iuav institution, focusing on the rhythmic, painterly qualities of his landscapes. Upon its release, it was regarded by scholars of urban design and botany as a definitive resource for understanding how Burle Marx manipulated space, color, and texture to challenge the formal constraints of 20th-century garden architecture.
