Where it came from
Released by Pan Books in 1973, this title arrived at the height of the public transition between Sean Connery and Roger Moore in the James Bond film series. As Moore prepared for his debut as the iconic spy in Live and Let Die, Pan Books capitalized on the media frenzy by commissioning this promotional-style volume. It served as a glossy, behind-the-scenes introduction to the new 007, blending biographical background with the promotional imagery necessary to establish Moore’s distinct, lighter-hearted persona within the franchise.
The book is a classic example of 1970s film tie-in literature, prioritizing visual appeal and accessibility for mass-market audiences. Designed to satisfy fan curiosity, it compiles photographs and text that bridge the gap between the actor’s established television fame and his new cinematic identity. While it was widely distributed at the time as a paperback original, it has since become a sought-after relic for Bond completists interested in the marketing strategies and cultural reception of the era's transition in leading men.
