Skyriders

Skyriders, written by Alan C. Jenkins and published by Blackie in 1975, emerged during a period when the British publishing industry frequently produced illustrated non-fiction aimed at educating youth about the rapidly evolving technologies of transportation and aviation. The book reflects the mid-seventies fascination with the mechanics of flight, offering a broad overview of how various aircraft functioned within their respective roles.

The design of the work is characteristic of Blackie’s mid-century output, utilizing a combination of accessible prose and technical illustration meant to serve as both an educational resource and a coffee-table reference for young enthusiasts. While Alan C. Jenkins was a prolific contributor to this genre of informative literature, the volume is primarily recognized today as a modest but earnest artifact of late-twentieth-century instructional publishing, capturing a specific moment in aerospace interest before the digital era transformed information access.
