Sleuth

Sleuth was originally conceived by the prolific game designer Sid Sackson, a titan of mid-20th-century board game design who is perhaps best known for his classic title Acquire. Sackson first published Sleuth in 1971 through 3M's celebrated Bookshelf Games series. The game was designed as a sophisticated exercise in deductive reasoning, moving away from the luck-heavy mechanics common in mass-market games of the era to focus on hidden information and logical elimination.

The 2004 Face2face Games edition served to reintroduce this classic to a modern audience, maintaining the integrity of Sackson’s original mechanical design while updating the aesthetic for contemporary tabletop players. The game centers on a set of cards representing items, colors, and numbers, challenging players to identify a secret 'stolen' card through carefully structured questioning. It remains highly regarded in the hobbyist community for its lean design and the elegant way it forces players to balance intelligence gathering with tactical misdirection.
