System der christlichen Glaubenslehre

Published in 1886 by Wilhelm Hertz, this work represents the final synthesis of the theology of Isaak August Dorner, a prominent 19th-century German Protestant theologian. The text serves as a systematic exposition of Christian faith, grounded in the mediation between traditional orthodoxy and the emerging critical scholarship of the era. It emerged during a period of intense theological debate in Germany, where thinkers sought to harmonize the historical veracity of scripture with the intellectual requirements of modernity.

Dorner’s design for this work aimed to create a comprehensive, organic structure for systematic theology that emphasized the centrality of the person of Christ. As a professor at the University of Berlin, his scholarship was influential among his contemporaries and successors for its rigor and philosophical depth. The reception of his Glaubenslehre was largely defined by its perceived complexity, earning it a reputation as a challenging yet foundational reference for academic divinity students and clergy throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
