7" Collector's Series Vol. 8 Randy's Records Randy's Deejay's

The 7-inch Collector's Series released by 17 North Parade serves as a tribute to the legacy of Vincent 'Randy' Chin and his seminal Kingston record shop, Randy's Records. Established in the late 1950s, the store and its associated studio became a crucible for Jamaican music, nurturing the transition from ska to rocksteady and eventually reggae. This specific installment, Volume 8, focuses on the 'Randy's Deejay's' aesthetic, capturing the era when sound system selectors and deejays began toast-talking over instrumental backing tracks, a practice that fundamentally reshaped Caribbean music production.

This series was designed to curate and preserve the raw, rhythmic energy of the Randy's catalog for vinyl enthusiasts. The aesthetic leans into a minimalist, archival approach, utilizing the 17 North Parade imprint—the reissue arm of VP Records—to ensure the sonic fidelity remains faithful to the original studio recordings. By focusing on the deejay-led tracks that emanated from the North Parade location, the collection highlights the innovative engineering and raw vocal charisma that defined the shop's contribution to global dancehall culture.
