Where it came from
This recording was released in 2006 by the label Brabantse Orgelklanken to document the specific tonal characteristics of the historic Maarschalkerweerd organ located in the Hofkerk of Bergeijk. The instrument, built by the renowned Dutch organ builder Michaël Maarschalkerweerd in 1902, represents a significant example of late 19th-century organ building, characterized by its romantic disposition and technical craftsmanship typical of the era.
Ad van Sleuwen, a prominent Dutch organist and expert on regional heritage, selected works by the French composer Théodore Dubois for this recording. Dubois, known for his influential contributions to the organ repertoire during the late Romantic period, provides a musical program that highlights the color, voicing, and mechanical integrity of the Maarschalkerweerd instrument, serving as both a technical showcase for the organ and a preservation project for local musical history.
