Where it came from
Alexandrie Alexandra was released in 2004 by the artist Bernard Frédéric, known professionally as Claude François Jr. or Clo-Clo Jr. The release is a notable entry in the catalog of the Fidélité label, designed as a tribute to his father, the legendary French pop icon Claude François, who originally popularized the song in 1978. The 2004 production sought to modernize the disco-inflected anthem while maintaining the high-energy, nostalgic appeal of the original orchestration.
The recording carries the weight of a complex familial and artistic legacy, serving as a reverent homage that fits within the broader tradition of French variety music. While the original 1978 version remains a cornerstone of the Gallic cultural canon, this 2004 iteration was received primarily by fans of the François estate as a gesture of continuity. It reflects a shift in French pop during the early 2000s toward reinterpreting heritage material for contemporary dance floors.
