Where it came from
Alexandrie Alexandra was originally recorded by Claude François in 1977, serving as the title track for his final studio album released just before his sudden death in 1978. Composed by Jean-Pierre Bourtayre and Étienne Roda-Gil, the song is a quintessential example of French disco, blending infectious rhythm with lyrics that evoke a nostalgic, sun-drenched vision of Egypt. It remains one of the most recognizable tracks in the Francophone pop canon.
The 1998 release on the Disques Flèche label was part of a broader effort to reissue and remaster François's discography for a new generation of listeners. By the late nineties, the song had achieved status as a cultural staple in France, frequently played at weddings and festive gatherings. This specific reissue maintained the integrity of the original arrangements, which were designed to showcase François's showmanship and the sophisticated production values typical of his collaborations with the Flèche label.
