Where it came from
Released in 2019 under his own label, Le Furieux, this eponymous project represents a distinct chapter in Antoine Sahler’s career as a multi-instrumentalist and long-time collaborator with figures like François Morel. The album serves as a personal showcase, moving away from his usual role as a sideman or arranger to highlight his unique sensibilities as a singer-songwriter within the French chanson tradition.
The album’s design and artistic direction reflect Sahler’s understated approach, prioritizing narrative depth and melodic craftsmanship over commercial artifice. By opting for an independent release, Sahler maintained full creative control, resulting in a cohesive work that was received by critics as a mature, introspective effort that underscores his reputation as a meticulous composer and a vital, if often behind-the-scenes, presence in contemporary French music.
