Ashleigh Flynn & The Riveters

Released in 2018 on the independent label Home Perm Records, this self-titled album marks a pivotal collaborative shift for Ashleigh Flynn. Long known for her solo work in the folk and Americana traditions, Flynn assembled The Riveters to infuse her songwriting with a grittier, rock-oriented sensibility. The project was conceived as an exploration of American resilience and feminine strength, drawing aesthetic inspiration from the mid-century labor movement, which is reflected in both the band’s name and the album's thematic undercurrents.

The production sought a live-in-the-room sound, prioritizing the interplay between Flynn’s narrative-driven lyrics and the band’s blues-inflected instrumental arrangements. Critics noted the record as a departure from her more introspective folk roots, praising the interplay of the ensemble for adding a robust, energetic layer to her compositions. The album serves as a documented example of the regional roots-rock scene in the Pacific Northwest, where Flynn has long been a fixture.
