Ballett-Suiten: Dornröschen · Schwanensee · Nußknacker = Sleeping Beauty · Swan Lake · Nutcracker

Released by Deutsche Grammophon, this recording features the Berliner Philharmoniker under the baton of Mstislav Rostropovich, capturing Tchaikovsky's most beloved ballet scores. The collaboration between the legendary cellist-turned-conductor and one of the world's preeminent orchestras was captured during a period when Rostropovich was deeply engaged with the German symphonic tradition, aiming to bring a blend of Russian emotional intensity and refined orchestral precision to these classic suites.

The album serves as a definitive example of Deutsche Grammophon's high-fidelity production standards during the late 20th century. Designed with the label's signature understated aesthetic, the cover art and liner notes emphasize the stature of the performers, reflecting a deliberate effort to position these suites not merely as background music for dance, but as serious symphonic works worthy of focused listening. It remains a widely respected recording for its lush, expansive soundstage and the nuanced phrasing Rostropovich elicited from the Berlin strings.
