Where it came from
Billy Billy was released in 2017 as a self-published project by the artist Donnarumma. Operating outside the traditional framework of major record labels, this release exemplifies the independent production ethos common in the experimental and electronic music scenes of the mid-2010s, where artists increasingly utilized self-distribution to maintain creative autonomy over their sound and presentation.
The album reflects a distinct aesthetic approach characteristic of Donnarumma's catalog, prioritizing atmospheric soundscapes and unconventional composition techniques. While it remains a niche release within the artist's discography, it serves as a documentation of their developmental period in 2017, capturing a specific intersection of personal songwriting and lo-fi production values that defines their independent body of work.
