Libre Comme La Rivière

Libre Comme La Rivière serves as a notable example of the independent music scene in the early 2010s, released in 2013 by the artist Gissé. Produced outside the framework of a traditional record label, the project reflects the artist's commitment to artistic autonomy and direct creative expression. The album captures a transitional period in French-language independent pop, prioritizing personal songwriting and intimate production values over the commercial polish often dictated by major industry entities.

The design of the physical CD reflects its grassroots origins, favoring a minimalist aesthetic that aligns with the project's earnest, acoustic-leaning folk sensibilities. By opting for a self-released format, Gissé navigated a growing movement of independent musicians who utilized the digital era to bypass standard distribution gatekeepers, ensuring that the physical release functioned primarily as a tangible memento for a dedicated listener base rather than a mass-market commodity.
