Where it came from
Released in 2005 on the iconic South Texas label Haçienda Records, Cantando y tomando stands as a representative entry in the discography of Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers. The group, a staple of the Tejano and conjunto circuit, utilized the label to reach audiences who favored traditional accordion-led sounds blended with contemporary production techniques typical of the early 2000s regional Mexican music scene.
The album reflects the specific stylistic evolution of the Tejano genre during this period, focusing on a mix of cumbias and rancheras that catered to dance halls and local radio play. The design and presentation follow the standard aesthetic conventions of the era for Haçienda Records, prioritizing accessibility and a clear visual identity that resonated with the band's established regional fan base.
