Where it came from
Released in 2000 under the Texas-based label Haçienda Records, Orgullosa y bonita represents a period in the late 1990s and early 2000s when the South Texas conjunto and tejano scenes were evolving while maintaining strong traditional roots. The album serves as a standard example of the polished production style common to Haçienda, which became a significant hub for regional artists seeking to capture the energetic, dance-oriented sound that defined local dance halls during this era.
Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers have long been fixtures in the tejano circuit, known for their focus on maintaining the authentic, rhythmic integrity of the genre. The design and presentation of this release reflect the utilitarian aesthetic of regional independent labels at the time, which prioritized distributing music directly to fans of the live circuit rather than chasing mainstream pop trends. Like much of the label's catalog, the album was received primarily by the dedicated listener base within the regional tejano community, acting as a testament to the band's longevity and commitment to the accordion-led sound.
