Where it came from
Released by the JADE label in 2015, this recording captures the liturgical chants performed by the Choeur des Pères Norbertins de l'Abbaye Saint-Michel. The Abbey, located in Frigolet, France, maintains a long-standing tradition of Gregorian chant, which serves as both a devotional practice and a preserved musical heritage. This collection, titled En Chemin, was produced to provide listeners with a meditative experience rooted in the centuries-old monastic liturgy.
The production sought to capture the natural acoustics of the abbey’s architecture, emphasizing the monophonic purity characteristic of the genre. The JADE label, known for its focus on sacred and world music, aimed to document the specific vocal techniques of the Norbertine canons. Upon its release, the album was received primarily by audiences interested in monastic traditions and spiritual music, serving as a contemporary bridge to the medieval roots of Western choral composition.
