Where it came from
Released in 2001 on the Italian label Philology, this album serves as a unique homage to the jazz trumpeter Chet Baker. The project was conceived by the label's founder, Paolo Piangiarelli, who was deeply invested in preserving Baker's musical legacy through previously unreleased or tribute-themed recordings. It brings together pianist Renato Sellani, trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, and bassist Massimo Moriconi to explore the melancholic and lyrical aesthetic that defined Baker's career.
The album is titled 'Chet: La Musica Infinita' and is distinguished by its integration with a 'Silloge Poetica'—a poetic collection written by Vittorio Franchini. This design choice aims to mirror the evocative, fragile nature of Baker's playing through the medium of Italian verse. By pairing instrumental jazz performances with literary reflection, the release seeks to capture the atmosphere of Baker's time in Italy, offering a meditative tribute that focuses on the emotional resonance of the music rather than a standard biographical compilation.
