Where it came from
This recording was produced in 1995 as part of the international marketing strategy for the Walt Disney animated feature Pocahontas. The English version, performed by Vanessa Williams, served as the film's primary pop-single promotional track, designed to broaden the musical appeal of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz's Oscar-winning composition beyond the theatrical release.
The Dutch-language version, performed by musical theater star Pia Douwes, was commissioned for the film's regional release in the Netherlands. Douwes was selected to bring a sophisticated, theatrical quality to the vocal performance, reflecting Disney’s established practice of hiring prominent local vocalists to ensure the soundtrack resonated with international audiences while maintaining the high production standards of the original studio recording.
