Where it came from
This release, a German-language audio adaptation of Walt Disney's 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty, was issued by Walt Disney Records in 1997. It belongs to a long-standing tradition of Disney audio productions, which sought to bring the narrative and musical experience of their feature films to home listeners through spoken-word storytelling intercut with the original film score and iconic vocal performances.
The production follows the established Disney 'Hörspiel' format, a staple of the German market designed to preserve the immersive quality of the feature film within an audio-only medium. By utilizing the original voice acting and character designs associated with the German dub of the 1959 film, the release maintains continuity with the visual branding of the studio while providing a concise, nostalgic retelling of Princess Aurora’s tale for a new generation of listeners.
