Where it came from
Comme Rivière is a self-released project by Canadian composer and multi-instrumentalist Claude Gagnon, issued independently in 2010. The album emerged from Gagnon's practice of blending ambient textures with folk-influenced arrangements, a hallmark of his artistic output during this period. Without the backing of a traditional record label, the release reflects a personal, intimate approach to production, typical of the independent music scene in Quebec at the turn of the decade.
The design and conceptual direction of the album were led by Gagnon, who sought to capture a reflective and flowing atmosphere that echoed the lyrical themes of water and nature. By opting for a private, direct-to-listener distribution model, the work bypassed commercial distribution channels, prioritizing creative control over mainstream accessibility. It remains a niche release that serves as a quiet documentation of Gagnon’s development as an experimental songwriter.
