Where it came from
Released in 2009 under The Entertainment Group, De Smaak Van Water serves as the debut studio album by Belgian actor and singer Roel Vanderstukken. The project emerged during a period of significant activity for Vanderstukken, who was already well-recognized for his television work in Flanders. The album reflects a transition from his acting career into the Dutch-language pop and chanson music scene, aiming to establish a personal musical identity that resonated with his existing audience.
The album was produced with an accessible pop sensibility, featuring lyrics that explore themes of romance and daily life common in Flemish light entertainment of that era. Musically, it relies on clean, radio-friendly production and vocal performances that prioritize emotional sincerity. While it garnered attention within the Belgian music market as a notable celebrity-led release, it remains a specific artifact of late-2000s Belgian pop culture.
