Dreyfus Night In Paris

Dreyfus Night In Paris was recorded live at the Olympia in Paris in 1994, capturing a rare intersection of jazz fusion and post-bop virtuosity. Released by Dreyfus Jazz in 2003, the album serves as a document of a special performance organized by the label head Francis Dreyfus to showcase his roster of elite musicians. It highlights the collaborative energy between multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller, pianist Michel Petrucciani, guitarist Biréli Lagrène, drummer Lenny White, and saxophonist Kenny Garrett, who were all central to the label's identity during the late nineties and early two-thousands.

The album's design and release reflect the sleek, professional aesthetic Dreyfus Jazz cultivated for its live concert series. By pairing seasoned fusion veterans like Miller and White with the singular, percussive brilliance of Petrucciani and the technical prowess of Lagrène, the production was intended to appeal to listeners looking for high-fidelity live improvisation. Critics generally praised the recording for its spontaneity and the remarkable chemistry of a group that rarely performed as a singular quintet in such an intimate concert setting.
