Elastic

Released in 2016 on the Cipsela label, Elastic captures a spontaneous and highly improvisational dialogue between double bassist Joëlle Léandre and violinist Théo Ceccaldi. The album emerged from the fertile landscape of contemporary European free jazz and avant-garde chamber music, highlighting the cross-generational connection between Léandre, a pioneer of the experimental scene, and Ceccaldi, a rising voice in the French jazz circuit. Their collaboration represents a concentrated study in texture, extended techniques, and the fluid interplay possible between their respective string instruments.

The recording process was centered on capturing the raw, immediate energy of the duo's live chemistry. By stripping away traditional harmonic constraints, the artists prioritized the physical sound of wood and horsehair, allowing for a sonic palette that shifts between abrasive, percussive attacks and delicate, lyrical passages.
