Éxitos De Los Mejores Clásicos Del Son Septeto Nacional De Ignacio Piñeiro

This collection represents a significant effort to preserve the legacy of the Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Piñeiro, one of the most influential ensembles in the history of Cuban son music. Formed in 1927 by Ignacio Piñeiro, the group played a foundational role in formalizing the son cubano genre, integrating the trumpet into the traditional septet format and elevating the style to international prominence. This specific compilation, released in 2008 by Discos DLB, serves as an anthology of their most essential recordings, capturing the rhythmic sophistication and lyrical wit that defined their peak era.

The design and production of this release were focused on archival preservation, aiming to bridge the gap between historical field recordings and modern digital accessibility. By curating a selection of their 'mejores clásicos,' or best classics, the label intended to honor the intellectual property and cultural impact of Piñeiro’s compositions. Upon its release, the collection was received by music historians and world music enthusiasts as an important entry in the canon of Afro-Cuban music, serving as a cohesive introduction to a group whose influence paved the way for the later global explosion of the son sound.
