Farfalla

Farfalla was released in 2002 on the independent Alan Records label as a project by the electronic music act Moongate. The album emerged during a period of significant experimentation within the downtempo and ambient electronic scenes, characterized by a shift toward incorporating lush, organic textures into digital soundscapes. The project was conceived as a sonic exploration of metamorphosis, drawing on atmospheric synthesizers and layered percussion to create a cohesive, immersive listening experience that reflected the label's focus on mood-driven, melodic electronica.

The album's design and artistic direction were closely tied to the themes of transition and natural delicacy suggested by the title. The sleeve art and overall visual identity aimed to mirror the ethereal nature of the music, utilizing minimalist, high-contrast imagery to evoke the fleeting beauty often associated with the butterfly motif. While the release remained a niche entry in the broader electronic catalog of the early 2000s, it was recognized by contemporary listeners as a deliberate attempt to blend structured composition with fluid, improvisational electronic elements.
