Few Steps To Heaven (And Then...)

Few Steps To Heaven (And Then...) was released in 2014 under the independent label Toukotsu Sound, marking a notable entry in the mid-2010s Japanese indie electronic and experimental scene. Produced by the artist AYANO, who was sixteen at the time of the release, the album serves as a reflection of the burgeoning bedroom pop and netlabel aesthetic that gained significant traction during this period. The work is characterized by its lo-fi production values and melancholic melodic sensibilities, which were intended to evoke a sense of fleeting adolescence.

The album's design and sound were received as a stark, minimalist statement, emphasizing personal expression over high-fidelity commercial polish. Toukotsu Sound operated within a niche community of creators who favored digital distribution and small-run physical pressings, allowing AYANO to experiment with atmospheric textures and rhythmic abstraction. While the release remained largely underground, it is frequently cited by followers of the era for its raw, unfiltered approach to songwriting, solidifying its place as a cult piece within the artist's early discography.
