Where it came from
Released in 2000 by JAV Recordings, this compilation serves as an auditory showcase for the craftsmanship of the Ernest M. Skinner organ company. JAV Recordings, led by Joe Vitacco, established this series to preserve the sound of American pipe organs through high-fidelity recordings, effectively archiving the tonal characteristics and mechanical nuances of instruments that might otherwise be lost to time or renovation.
The album features a distinguished group of organists, including Thomas Murray and Ken Cowan, who perform a varied repertoire specifically chosen to highlight the versatility of the Skinner instruments. Rather than focusing on a single soloist, the collection functions as a collaborative tribute to the symphonic organ movement. It was well-received within the professional organ community and among audiophiles for its technical clarity and dedication to the preservation of historically significant pipe organ voicing.
