Freiheit

Freiheit was released in 2014 by the Austrian band Dornenreich through Prophecy Productions. This album marked a significant transition in the band's career, as it saw them move away from their earlier, heavier black metal roots toward a more intimate, acoustic-driven sound. The project was conceived as a reflection on the concept of freedom, both philosophically and musically, representing the culmination of a multi-year creative evolution that emphasized folk instrumentation and introspective, poetic lyrics.

The album's design and aesthetic were crafted to mirror its minimalist and organic soundscape. Dornenreich frontman Eviga envisioned a visual presentation that stripped away the harsh, aggressive imagery typical of their genre, opting instead for visuals that felt grounded in nature and solitude. Upon its release, the album was received by the dark folk and metal community as a bold departure that tested the boundaries of the band's identity, ultimately solidifying their reputation as experimentalists who prioritize thematic depth over conventional genre expectations.
