Provenance

Where it came from

Ginger was released in 2010 as the debut solo album by Gaëtan Roussel, best known as the frontman for the French rock band Louise Attaque. Following a period of hiatus for the band, Roussel embarked on this project to explore a more electronic and pop-oriented sound, collaborating with producer Joseph Dahan. The album was recorded in various locations including Paris and Berlin, signaling a deliberate departure from the folk-rock aesthetic that defined his earlier work.

The album's design and sound were crafted to bridge the gap between intimate singer-songwriter sensibilities and modern dance-pop production. Upon its release via Barclay, the record was met with significant critical and commercial success in France, earning multiple Victoires de la Musique awards in 2011, including Album of the Year. It is widely regarded as a pivotal record in Roussel's career, establishing his viability as a solo artist while showcasing his versatility as a composer and performer.
