Girls Can´t Hit!

Girls Can't Hit! was released in 1996 by the German label Lipstick Records, which was known for its focus on contemporary jazz and fusion during the 1990s. The album is a project by German drummer Carola Grey and her ensemble, Noisy Mama. It emerged from the vibrant European fusion scene, building upon Grey’s reputation as a technically proficient musician who sought to bridge traditional jazz sensibilities with the more aggressive, electric textures popular in mid-90s jazz-rock and funk-fusion.

The album’s design and artistic direction reflect the era’s penchant for bold, expressive cover art that sought to challenge gender stereotypes within the percussion world. Musically, the record received attention for its high-energy arrangements and Grey's intricate drumming, which was intended to defy the sexist tropes implied by the album's title. While it remains a niche entry in the catalogue of 1990s fusion, it stands as a documented artifact of Grey’s effort to establish a distinct voice within the predominantly male-dominated jazz-fusion circuit of that time.
