Where it came from
This 1994 release on the Berlin Classics label captures the refined partnership of the German classical guitar duo, Klaus and Rainer Feldmann. The recording emerged during a period of transition for the label, which was formerly known as VEB Deutsche Schallplatten and was instrumental in preserving East German classical music heritage after reunification. The album serves as an anthology of their technical precision, spanning a diverse chronological range from the Renaissance works of Antonio de Cabezón to the late 20th-century compositions of André Asriel.
The repertoire reflects the duo's dedication to the guitar as an ensemble instrument, balancing established baroque transcriptions by Vivaldi and Scarlatti with 20th-century pieces by Debussy and Pierre Petit. Klaus Feldmann, a prominent figure in the East German classical guitar scene, curated the selection to showcase the dynamic range and contrapuntal capabilities of the duo. Critical reception at the time of release focused on the clarity of the arrangement and the nuanced, academic approach to interpretation that defined the Feldmanns' long-standing collaborative career.
