This 2006 release from Berlin Classics compiles highlights from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s three monumental ballets: The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake. The collection serves as an accessible entry point to the Romantic era's most iconic orchestral works, drawing on the label’s extensive archive of recordings originally produced in the former East Germany. These performances carry the legacy of the German Democratic Republic’s prestigious state-owned record label, Eterna, which was renowned for its high-fidelity captures of Eastern Bloc orchestras.

The curation reflects a desire to preserve the rich, traditional interpretations that defined the Central European classical music scene during the late 20th century. By pairing these scores, Berlin Classics aimed to provide a comprehensive listening experience that emphasizes the structural and melodic evolution of Tchaikovsky’s compositions. The set is noted for its clean, balanced sound engineering, a hallmark of the studio techniques refined by the label over decades, ensuring these classic interpretations remain relevant for modern listeners.
