Nur Gitarre

Nur Gitarre was released in 1990 as a self-produced project by German musician Klaus-Jürgen Spannhoff. The album reflects the independent, grassroots approach of regional folk and acoustic instrumentalists in late 20th-century Germany, who often bypassed major label distribution to maintain total creative autonomy over their compositions. It represents a period where niche artists utilized burgeoning home-recording technology to archive their repertoire for dedicated local audiences and fellow enthusiasts of solo guitar work.

The album's design and conceptual intent are centered on the stark, singular focus of the instrument itself. By titling the work Nur Gitarre—or Only Guitar—Spannhoff signaled a rejection of studio artifice, opting for a clean, intimate production style that prioritized technical clarity. While the record remained a relatively obscure release within the broader European acoustic circuit, it stands as a focused exercise in minimalist production, serving as a primary document of Spannhoff’s specific approach to guitar arrangement during this era.
