Where it came from
Released in 2009 on the Barclay label, Help Myself (Nous Ne Faisons Que Passer) serves as the debut solo studio album by French singer-songwriter Gaëtan Roussel. Following the hiatus of his successful rock band Louise Attaque, Roussel transitioned into a more experimental, pop-oriented sound that blended electronic textures with his signature folk-rock roots. The record was crafted during a period of creative transition for the artist, allowing him to explore broader musical landscapes outside the constraints of his previous group.
The album was received as a significant artistic success in France, earning critical acclaim for its polished production and melodic sensibilities. Roussel worked to create a cohesive atmosphere that balanced introspective lyrics with radio-friendly hooks, eventually leading the album to be awarded the Victoire de la Musique for Rock Album of the Year in 2011. Its design and sound remain emblematic of the French alternative pop scene of the late 2000s, solidifying Roussel's reputation as a versatile solo performer.
