Hemelbestormer / Vanessa Van Basten

Released in 2014 by the independent Belgian label Consouling Sounds, this split EP brought together two distinct entities from the atmospheric and post-metal underground. Hemelbestormer, hailing from Belgium, contributed their signature blend of heavy, expansive instrumental soundscapes, while Italian artist Vanessa Van Basten provided a contrasting approach rooted in gloom-laden, experimental post-rock. The collaboration was curated to highlight the label's commitment to dark, immersive textures and the intersection of sludge and ambient compositions.

The design of the release reflects the label's typical minimalist and evocative aesthetic, prioritizing a somber mood that complements the crushing weight of the music. As a limited-run project, it was intended to serve as a bridge between the niche audiences of both bands, offering a curated experience for followers of post-metal and doom. It was received by the underground music press as a quintessential example of the label's dark, atmospheric curatorial style, serving to introduce Hemelbestormer to a wider audience before the band's later full-length releases.
