Where it came from
Her Von Welken Nächten was released by the Austrian dark metal band Dornenreich in 2008 through Prophecy Productions. Marking the band's fifth full-length studio album, this record represents a significant pivot in their sound, characterized by a more acoustic, melancholic, and minimalist approach compared to their earlier, more aggressive black metal efforts. The album serves as an exploration of solitude, nature, and existential decay, reflecting the band's ongoing commitment to a deeply introspective and poetic aesthetic.
The album's design and conceptual direction were driven by frontman Jochen Stock and vocalist Eviga, who aimed to strip away the density of metal to focus on raw, evocative songwriting. The visual art and lyrical themes emphasize the ephemeral nature of the human experience, a recurring motif in Dornenreich's work. Upon release, the album was received as a bold departure that cemented the band's reputation as experimentalists within the underground metal scene, appealing to fans who preferred atmospheric, folk-inflected compositions over traditional heavy instrumentation.
