Where it came from
Holger Danske serves as the second full-length studio album from The Old Firm Casuals, an American street punk band formed in 2010 by Lars Frederiksen of Rancid. Released in 2019 through the German independent label Demons Run Amok Entertainment, the album marks a shift toward a more polished, melodic sound while maintaining the group's signature blend of Oi!, hardcore, and classic rock influences.
The album's title and thematic elements draw inspiration from the figure of Holger Danske, a legendary Danish hero from medieval folklore who is said to sleep in the casemates of Kronborg Castle until he is needed to defend his country. The artwork and production reflect the band's focus on historical motifs and working-class identity, receiving a generally positive reception from the global punk scene for its anthemic song structures and professional engineering.
